Year 7 Ready to Learn

Many students find the transition to secondary school challenging as they move from the one-room, one-teacher model of primary school, to one where they are moving between classes and trying to balance many competing demands. It makes sense then that they may initially find it difficult to prioritise activities, set and achieve goals and generally organise themselves.

Central to being ‘ready to learn’ is the development of executive function skills which enable us to plan, focus, follow instructions and to prioritise tasks.

For young people, executive function can be profoundly affected by physical factors such as not getting enough sleep, or poor diet and exercise.

During our parent workshop designed for Year 7 parents, Kristen Molloy from the Crowther Center, and Kirsten Dunsby, Head of Year 7, will discuss what it means to be ‘ready to learn’, particularly in relation to executive function and self-regulation, and how you can help foster and support these essential qualities for learning in your children.

Join us on Wednesday 19 February at 7pm in the Urwin Centre.

Please join us for this interactive workshop to hear from:
